Comment Human islets fail to increase DNA synthesis in response to an increased glucose concentration, exogenous insulin or IGF-1. LiCl that directly inhibits GSK-3 and engages the Wnt signaling pathway, significantly increased DNA synthesis in the same set of human islets. The authors have previously shown that rodent islets significantly increase DNA synthesis in response to an increase in glucose or exogenous insulin, suggesting that human islets may display resistance in the insulin/IGF-1 signaling pathway.
