Comment Gallbladder volume was increased threefold in LIRKO mice, consistent with impaired motility and increased biliary cholesterol content. Because fractional cholesterol absorption from the gut was similar in Lox and LIRKO mice, the absolute amount of cholesterol absorbed from the gut in LIRKO mice should be increased because of their high levels of biliary cholesterol secretion. This was associated with a twofold increase in hepatic cholesterol and decreased expression of sterol regulatory element-binding protein-2 and its targets.
